well actually bruce wayne is dead. never really read batman but i would occasionally pick up an issue. so here's the scoop thus far:
during the final crisis story arc, batman was killed by darkseid's omega beams. there was a big funeral attended by both hero,villain and civilian alike. the original robin dick grayson has seemingly retired the nightwing costume and moniker and taken up the mantle of the cape and cowl. bruce's son damian is now the new robin, the robin that died,jason todd,came back from the dead,posed as the red hood and then was busted out of jail by the third robin tim drake only to dress up as batman and go on a murdering spree. tim drake now goes by red robin after dick respectfully denied him the role of robin. tim is also the only person who believes bruce is still alive and is in league with ras al ghul to find bruce. the second batgirl,upon learning of bruce's death,quit and passed the cape and cowl of batgirl to cassie,formerly the spoiler and ex 4th robin plus formerly dead! righty now dick grayson is doing a poor job at playing a convincing batman as two-face has caught on to changes in the dark knight's berhavior. he's leaking info on the penguin in order to see just who is parading around as batman. that's a rough catch up. buy the books and read for details!
