Since Melodic Death Metal is my favorite style of music at the moment what are some of your favorite bands from this subgenre?

Currently my favorites are

Dark Tranquillity

Whispered

Mors Principium Est

Eluveitie (Primarily folk metal but has some MDM)

myGRAIN

Norther are quite good(but kinda mainstream), as are The Duskfall.

I really like Arch Enemy but I dunno if I'd call them melodeath. Amon Amarth are very viking metal oriented. Children of Bodom?

I think early Bodom is more Melodeath with power metal, http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/children_of_bodom

I don't really know what their new stuff sounds like i haven't heard them in awhile, but my favorite album is Something Wild http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/children_of_bodom/something_wild/

It's the one album i haven't grown out of yet. I think it's because it has that 'Castlevania' feeling to it (the videogame series).

Amon Amarth is definatly a MDM band http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/amon_amarth

& Viking Metal oriented as well. I like them.

Arch Enemy's first album does sound melodeath http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/arch_enemy has a similarity to early In Flames. The latest stuff does sound a bit metalcore IMO. But it's the better metalcore & not that cheap stuff lol.

since some metalcore bands like As I Lay Dying http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/as_i_lay_dying

& All That Remains http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/all_that_remains

has some MDM influences. Some people think that labeling subgenres with bands is pointless just because one band that sounds like MDM doesn't sound like another band that has the same style but has a few subtle differences. But As I Lay Dying & Dark Tranquillity sound almost like 2 different bands. DT uses more electronic/techno stuff in their music as most Modern Melodic Death Metal bands do.
