Everything that's happened to me -- both good and bad - occurred directly or indirectly as a consequence of my own thoughts, perceptions, behaviors, actions, etc. I've had some tremendous high points, as well as times when being miserable would have been an improvement. I've been to jail, and I've testIfied as an expert witness. I withdrew from the first college i attended, and have since taught at several others. I was discharged from the Navy for misconduct, and I've served a drink to President Obama. Without a doubt, I have lived a life. And while there are many things in my past that I am not proud of, I don't run from them either. I'm not perfect, but I am still here. Many - in fact, most - times, what is most important is not HOW you did something, but THAT you did something. It's like baseball - amidst all the drama, hits, great plays, blunders, etc. - how is the winner determined? By the number of times a team gets home safe. Same with life. I may not win every time, but I do my best to always make it home safe.

Watching Tomcats "turn and burn" onboard the USS Ranger (CV-61). Being about 8 feet under the afterburners of an F-14 as it was shot off the deck is a memory I will never forget (1986). A close second was being on the track (literally about 25 feet away) when Kenny Bernstein set a top fuel speed record of 302 mph at Famoso Raceway (1994). It's one thing to watch it from the stands, but quite another to feel the ground shake as these 10,000 hp monsters leave the line.
