Korea ‘Worst Country’ for Widows, Divorcees

has been voted the most difficult country for widows and divorced women
to live in the world. The ranking comes from poll conducted by World
Public Opinion of 17,595 people from 17 countries between January and
May this year about discrimination against such women. Korea was also named as the most discriminating country for divorced women. Some 82 percent of Koreans said divorced women are treated worse than others, outpacing Egypt’s 80 percent and Turkey’s 72 percent. Palestine and Iran had 53 and 51 percent respectively. Discrim ination against widows and divorced women is a problem not only in Korean society. Twelve out of 17 countries had about 40 percent of respondents saying that widows and divorced women are treated worse than other women. Only in a couple of countries did a clear majority of respondents say there is no discrimination. There's some discrimination against widows -said by: 81% of Korean respondents 70% of Turkish respondents 61% of Palestinian respondents 58% of Nigerian respondents 54% of Chinese respondents 35-42% of Indian respondents Divorced women are treated worse than others - said by: 82% of Korean respondents 80% of Egyptian respondents 72% of Turkish respondents 53% of Palestinian respondents 51% of Iranian respondents |
